Description:

This is the first card in the deck where we see the Fool step outside of the self and tune into the collective consciousness. After strengthening one’s inner world and balancing their energies they are able to get involved on a larger scale. A teacher of the sacred mystics, the Hierophant reminds us that no journey is ever truly isolated to an individual and that if we wish to advance we must connect back to Source through those around us.

Upright Interpretation:

How far is your energetic reach? Where can you contribute for the benefit of the collective? This card may be a signal to get more involved in your community or to tap into your passions through an organization. Now might be the time to deepen your connections with your family or re-evaluate the current structure of your life and your routines. This may also be a message to evolve in this area. Open yourself up to opportunities to build new skills.

Important Note:

As the first card in the deck to pull the Fool’s consciousness outside of one’s self, it is important to keep yourself mindful of your immediate networks. This card calls for you to stay present in the physical and be mindful of your energetic influence on all planes. If this card appears in a reading representing an individual pay close attention, Source may be using this person as a conduit to teach you lessons you need to learn before you can advance further.

Reversed Interpretation:

This card could be harrowing an ego death. You may be moving away from old habits, traditions, or spiritual obligations that were confining you in the past. You aren’t afraid to deviate from the established order at this time, you know that it’s best to follow your own moral compass and you won’t hesitate to do so. Now may be the time to connect within and strengthen your bond with yourself before stepping into a group. You may be too “tuned in” to the Collective Consciousness, and you may not be hearing your inner voice. Keep an open mind. You’re being asked to grow.

Wicked Perspective:

I often struggle to connect with this card, perhaps because I’m not one for community; I prefer solitude. However, each piece of the puzzle has a place and I’ve come to terms with this one. This card asks us to become more present and encourages us to use our surrounding networks as tethers. When this card appears it’s time to address where you’re needed in the physical realm to do your part to serve others. Evaluate your priorities and your role in important organizations. Are your connections serving your highest passions?
