Description:

The Empress is a strong figure of fertility by all definitions. She is an abundant figure and she reminds us that resources are always available. A nurturing and caring card, the Empress comes to us to remind us to love and give emotional generosity whenever we can. She’s a sensual being, and she calls on you to be present in your life and connect with those around you. She is strongly rooted in her deepest self and she offers you the support and encouragement to do the same.

Upright Interpretation:

Powerful feminine energy is at work. It would suit you well to allow it to flow through you. Honor this energy and utilize it to add nurturing love to the areas in your life that may not be getting enough attention. Be open and give love freely. If this card represents a person, it is someone who cares deeply for the querent and wants to see them grow into their life. As the Universal Mother, the Empress is a card of the purest form of love.

Important Note:

Always embrace the energy that comes with this card even if the only place you can think of to put this support is into yourself.

Reversed Interpretation:

You may be expending too much of your loving energy outward and neglecting your own needs. Make time for self-care and take caution not to deplete your resources during this time. This could also indicate a mutation of love or affection in one of your relationships or within yourself. This card in a reversed position tells of emotional difficulty or the inability to express emotions.

It could also represent detachment, or oppositely, a person who is overly attached and clingy. You may be feeling overwhelmed at this time and the Mother encourages you to make adjustments to what’s no longer working in your life. Set healthy boundaries and remove clutter in all realms- especially the mental.

Wicked Perspective:

A representation of the Great Mother, the Empress reminds us of the importance of tending to the love in our lives through nurturing and supportive acts of kindness. Traditionally a card taken rather literally, remember that the Empress may simply show up to remind you that you have the abundant creative power to do and manage anything. Male or female, you are the creator/creatix in your world, but your duty to your creations and projects goes beyond their birth. Tend to the garden that is your life, remove weeds and create space for things to blossom.
